EH-Net / News Items and General Discussion About EH-Net / EH-Net IRC Channel?

Hey Don,
I really hope I have not overlooked it, but how about an IRC channel for EH-Net? I know I was really into IRC back in the 90's, then phased out of it, now coming full circle in how much I use it. It seems EH-Net has a pretty good group of people that would make for a great channel and a place to freely chat.
Thoughts?

So anyone from the forums planning on making it this year? I know ticket sales were a bit hectic but I figured there had to be a few on here that actually got a ticket.
I was fortunate enough to get a ticket on round 1, then was offered a ticket for the talk I submitted in the CFP. (Sorry the ticked went to a friend who gave me a hotel last year)
I hope to see some of you guys there, this will only be my second Shmoocon, but judging by last time, it is a much more educational atmosphere then Defcon.

This is a great prize up for grabs. I know I for one would love a chance at something like this. I have a very extensive background in security and computers, but the problem is that right now it is not my career. I am actually in the aviation sector looking to make a complete career change over the course of probably the next year. Looking at the site one of the great things they actually do offer is a chance to split up the payments in order to help you out. That is someone that is actually in touch with their audience and looking to help someone out!
Great prize once again for the site, thanks for the hard work.

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / ECSA - EC-Council Certified Security Analyst / Re: Passed the ECSA

As far as next certs will be the CISSP and the CCNA Security. I have wanted to take the CISSP for several months, but I am always out of town or have some other plans on the day it is offered. I REALLY wish they would go to computer based testing for it. I know they have talked about it for awhile, just wish it would happen. The CCNA Security just also seems like a good logical step, i know Cisco is losing some market share, but i have a full CCIE lab here at the house, and was planning on doing that. I like working with Cisco gear so wanted to get a few of there certs too.

Welp, I know this board is a little slow, but thought I would post in here that I passed the ECSA today. For some reason I had in my mind the test was 75-100 questions, was only 50. Wished i would have done a bit better, but got a 86%, and all I did was self study. This test is pretty decent, mostly a side step from the CEH, such as reading what the tools spit out. Now I am planning on applying for the LPT/Red team as soon as I get my background check back.
Anyone else here applied to the EC-C LPT?

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Security / Pen Testing Track

Hey guys,
I know the exact same questions are asked on here, with about every different prospective, and even though I don't post much I have read about all of them. I guess I am just honestly asking for personal recommendations.
I currently have a full time non computer job that allows me to pretty much control every aspect of my schedule, and can drop it down enough that I can transition over to another job.
So what I really want to do is contract pen testing. I have been using computers since I was a kid. Been involved in security about the entire time. I have ran my own computer company on the side specializing in network security, mostly doing vulnerability testing.
I realize that a lot of people want to see certs, so this last few months I did the Net+, Sec+, C|EH. I plan on doing the ECSA/LPT and the CISSP next. Really I am looking for how other have gotten there start in the field. Such as where do I find contracts? Does anyone have the LPT through EC-Council? What are others view of it.
Thanks for any input you guys have, I really do appreciate it.

Resources / Tools / Amazon AWS for Free
|

Hey guys, I am sure it has been talked about before, but yesterday is when Amazon started offering a free usage tier for AWS. http://aws.amazon.com/free/It comes in pretty handy for tons of different reasons. I will say that if you are doing port scans and other 'questionable' activity they will actually send you an email to a form, you fill it out and say you are doing security work and they will unleash the box for you. Pretty simple and VERY handy. Z

Sorry this took so long, I have been out of the country on work.
I am independent, so really my next few certs are going to be the ones that everyone wants to see. So first up is Net+, Security+ before they change at the end of the year. Then CCNA Security since most companies want to see Cisco certs anymore. Then the next ones will be fun ones, probably the OffSec or something like that.
I will say to be careful with the uCertify stuff. I got to where I could make 100% on every test on uCertify test, but honestly if I would have just studied that and gone into the test I am not sure I would have passed, it would have been really close. But as far as problems with the application, I didn't have any, you just put in your email address and it verifys it with the server and that is it if i remember correctly.
