181  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: CREST and TIGERSCHEME Qualifications on: May 30, 2009, 04:07:26 AM
Orhan

Yeah he performed the test last year and didnt really give me much information other than pointing me in the direction of the syllabus on their website.  To be honest he is very busy and is never in the country but has agreed to go through it in a bit more detail with me at some point this summer when he returns, so will post a little something then  Smiley

I have decided to go in the direction of CREST but wont be doing this for a good while yet.

Good luck with the Offsec course, looks good.  I am aiming to do the OSCP next month so i can build a good grounding for the check course as OSCP is very hands-on and technical

Hi Orhan

That sounds good, when do you intend to take it?

Good Luck with the study  Smiley

Yeah i agree it sounds sexier, but unfortunately the price is a bit of a turn off in comparison to the OSCP and if you were to do the self study CEH and the fact that it isnt established yet probably wont benefit me at the price to pay at the moment.

Hi Orhan

Thankyou, that clarifies a lot for me by confirming that CREST is definately the direction i want to be going in.  I have a friend whom has passed the CREST cert and has said it is fairly difficult but the only cert he has done (surprisingly) so is unable to perform any comparison.  Have you done the CREST exam and in difficulty could you compare with any other or is it in a league of its own?

How about this course as a next free giveaway?? Yeah i know it is a huge ask as it is so new but sounds excellent!

I would also like to mention that this site is fantastic and is really helping me learn what i need to become to move towards my chosen career as a Security Consultant!

Hi Worryfree

I am in a similar situation as yourself as in i have been in sysadmin for a while but not quite as long as you and want to get into the Security industry as a Pen Tester.  I have also completed the Security+ exam but have a very low budget to go towards courses and have been looking at the OSCP.  I have noticed that in the UK the required certifications are either CHECK or CREST but you have to be very competent before you can even think about taking on these qualifications and are still a couple of grand to do.  I have mentioned on the site a few times about the Tigerscheme but no one seems to really know of it and are therefore hesistant to go into that direction, as they provide courses followed by an exam but are unfortunately still very expensive  Cry

Thanks Data_Raid

Just one more quick question, do you think that having a SANs qualification is more worthwhile or should i stick with C|EH?

Hi

I am aiming to go in the technical direction of security i.e. Penetration Testing, Web App Assessment and was wondering what recommended SANS courses and exams i should do?
189  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / TigerScheme on: April 22, 2009, 01:56:28 AM
Hi All

I am based in London, UK and previous opened up a thread regarding TigerScheme V Crest.  Unfortunately i didnt get many responses on it as they are only UK based qualifications and not global, but if there is anyone else from the UK can shed some light on whether Tigerscheme is worthwhile then let me know? Please share your thoughts?

Hi All

In one of the previous thread's regarding CEH sais that the exam will be retired in June 2009, is this true?  Do you know why and is there an alternative to this exam?

Thanks guys, i have to say i am pleasantly surprised because two consultants I know working for companies in london have always told me that having the CEH cert wont help you much in the UK.  But as it does seem to be such a recognised cert in the US it seems like it will be wise to maybe have a go at it
193  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Web Applications / Vulnerable web apps to practice on on: March 09, 2009, 01:24:05 PM
Hi All

I am very new to penetration testing and am currently setting up a little virtual lab to perform tests on.  I have downloaded Foundstones hackmebank/hackmebooks etc and WebGoat, are there any other sites available that provide vulnerable apps to test?

Thanks all  Smiley

Hi

Yeah from my searches i would probably say CREST, CHECK and CISSP! I just wanted to know if anyone would also advise on TIGERSCHEME but doesnt seem to be known at all yet because it is founded in UK and is so new i guess

I am based near London, I must admit either CHECK or CREST in the uk seem the most predominant, i dont see many jobs requiring CEH at all when i perform a search on jobserve, jobsite etc for Penetration testing all over the UK.  Tigerscheme is newly founded here so is not well known at all yet and havent seen anyone asking for it yet
