Is this book for python 2?
2  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Programming / Re: Python 2 or Python 3 on: July 29, 2011, 12:18:30 PM
Thank you for your reply, I will stick with Python 3 then for now. I really like the syntax so far in python 3, It's very "logical"
3  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Programming / Python 2 or Python 3 on: July 29, 2011, 11:17:56 AM
I have started to learn Python 3. I am very new to python, but am familiar with VB script. So some of the Python 3 syntax is making sense to me.

However, I have been reading about Python 2, and it seems many people still use it.

So my first question is.

Should I learn Python 2 and then learn Python 3?

Or, am I ok sticking with Python 3 for now.

I want to learn Python, for Iphone programming and script writing.

Also, I heard that python is useful for PEN testing. I assume however, that most PEN testers use python 2. Since it's been around much longer.

I got called by my ISP once telling me if I didn't stop sucking down so much bandwidth they would shut me down... lol Who knew you could max out a fiber optic connection:)

Well I was just using movies as an example Smiley, I agree, I have Netflix and really have no need to download movies.. I was just wondering how SAFE they are, I know there are ways to mask torrent but it seem kinda pointless to me.. Seems like your ISP will know one way or another if your sucking all the bandwidth downloading, whether what your downloading traffic is encrypted or not. Thanks for your replies!

While were on the topic, how do you feel about News Groups?? If so, which do you use... there seems to be a lot out there O)
6  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Torrents Safe? on: May 28, 2009, 03:57:03 PM
I have been a long time torrent user. From my understanding using torrents is NOT anonymous. You can see most individuals IP addresses and location on many torrent programs. Doesn't that mean that using torrents is quite a security vulnerability? Maybe I'm off here.. but I wonder why more people aren't caught for Illegally downloading say... Movies?

Any thoughts?

I know this is an older topic, but I'm curious, did anyone hack your email? Smiley
8  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: What is the Best Version of Linux? on: May 12, 2009, 04:43:33 PM
WOW Thank you all for your replies, I have read them all and they have been very helpful. I have downloaded and installed Ubuntu and so far I like it. Had a little trouble trying to get the Broadcom Wireless card working, but there was lot's of support. Also had some trouble using the "adduser" command but found out the problem was with my folder permissions and had to chmod the temp folder to be written by a "group" I created. Fun stuff!!!

Thanks again!
9  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / What is the Best Version of Linux? on: May 08, 2009, 04:30:43 PM
I am a noob, when it comes to linux. I'm somewhat familiar with Linux commands because I use many Unix packets with Mac Osx Terminal. However, I have been doing some research on the best distributions of Linux, and have come across no consensus.  From what I have read, it seems that the best version of "Linux" depends on what you want to use Linux for. For Pen testing, the word on the street is Backtrack is ONE of the best. I'm looking for some suggestions.

1. I need a Version of Linux that is easy to use and is a Windows replacement (Something that is an easy transition for the non technically inclined). I read that Fedora KDE is fairly popular, any thoughts?

2. A version of Linux that is a little more customizable for someone (like me), but is a good learning version as well. I read that GNU/Linux has a hardcore following Smiley

I read that Red Hat is a good version for businesses?

I have read many good things about Unbutu

What do you think is the best version and why?

Thanks, I know this is a Noob question. Smiley

True that, I have websense at work.... and I figured out one of there open proxies. However that is against company policy and I don't want to get fired... I'm afraid when my boss comes to my desk and see's me watching youtube video's he might be wondering how I did that Smiley

Peace.

I have Firefox set to fix the DNS problem. Whats the safest way to tunnel then? I head encrypting your traffic on a public wifi network would be a good idea. Is there another way to encrypt the traffic? Privoxy maybe?
13  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Wireless / SSH Tunnel on: April 27, 2009, 07:20:56 PM
Question for you all Smiley I have set up an ssh connection to one of my servers via the command
ssh -D 8080 -f -C -q -N myuser@myserver.com   I then set my SOCKS manually (in this case in safari settings) to localhost port 8080

I checked to make sure my browser was tunneling by going to (Whatsmyip) and the Ip address that is showing up, is of course my web server address.

Here is my question.

With my connection tunneled I know that my passwords and sites I visit are kept private to anyone "listening" however. Say I do not own the server I am connected to. Can the people who own the server monitor my browsing history/download history/ passwords etc.

I'm just surprised that this wasn't , say "Bigger New's" that is a huge threat to our country, I mean our whole country is pretty much run on electronics of some sort. Just think though if say a well placed EMP went off in the united states. Most cars are now run with computer chips, if those chips were fried, your getting know were fast. Shocked  Just freaks me out if all the power went out say in a major city like New York, people would go crazy, and there would be riots...  If China wanted to start a war all they would have to do is shut down our power and we would start killing ourselves. LoL enough with my conspiracy theories Smiley
