1846  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: CISSP Pre-requisites on: February 02, 2007, 11:42:27 AM
A bachelors degree is not a requirement. You must have 4 years of direct security related experience or 3 years and a degree.

If you don't have the years of experience, you can still pass the exam and receive an 'associate' credential and 4 years time to get that experience and receive the certification.

It would at the least be able to back up individual files and such I suppose. Being that you could transfer them directly or create a shared folder between the two to copy files. At that point, it's not much better than backing up to a CD or some other media.

It would be pretty cool if they do come out with something that can reverse the process and restore a physical machine from a virtual machine.
1848  Features / Book Reviews / Re: Exam Prep Errors on: January 29, 2007, 11:05:54 AM
I'm surprised no one else has posted anything about this yet...

I bought this book as I saw several people had mentioned it was a good read before the CEH exam. I have read through it and taken my notes already, so I decided to take the written test in the back (110 questions). As I was comparing my answers to the answers in the back, I noticed several that just didn't make sense to me as to how I could have gotten them wrong. Upon further inspection, I noticed that some of the letters in the back, did not correspond with their correct letters in the question. The text explanation and answers all seem fine, just some letter mix-ups. It's a little confusing when you're just comparing letter-to-letter. Here are the fixes:

A. 27: D should be C
A. 31: B should be D
A. 40: B should be C
A. 51: B should be A

I suppose it's a good sign of preparedness that I can recognize when my answers should be correct, right?? Wink

Hope this helps someone Smiley

I didn't take into consideration that newer AP's leak fewer IV's, but the wireless Linksys router I'm using isn't too new. My signal strength was fine, as I was sitting one floor above my wireless router with 3 laptops (2 clients, 1 attacker). I wasn't using Windows. Thanks for the tips Smiley

Heh, funny that you mention that as that's exactly what I did. I started downloading ISO's on both of the client laptops so I had some constant traffic. That helped at the beginning to start gathering a more steady amount, but I still didn't get the end result I wanted. I'd imagine it's just like you said, due to the low traffic.

I know there's a post about this below, so I'll try to keep this as general as I can without knowing what the other posters intentions are.

I must be doing something wrong, because it's taking a loooong time to collect enough weak IVs. I've scanned and found the target SSID/MAC and associated client MACs. Then I start to capture the traffic, followed by sending traffic, and I'm just not really getting anywhere.

I must have spent at least 30 mins and only collected 55K or so. If someone can help, or wants more info, I can do so in pm.

Also, I'm only running the 64-bit and have 2 other clients connected when trying this. Could it be that there's just not enough traffic?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks Smiley

Yeah, I'm definitely not relying on the bootcamp. Especially when I emailed the instructor of the course and he couldn't even tell me what version they're running...

I'm using the advice on this site and using a good variety of study material. I'm going to try some of these sample exams and see how I do, but not preplogic =P
1853  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / *nix Wi-Fi cards on: January 26, 2007, 10:25:43 PM
I'm looking to buy a new wi-fi card for my laptop. Does anyone have any suggestions as far as compatibility goes with various *nix distributions?

I didn't realize this book was supposed to come so long ago. I was just looking for additional material before my class/test and saw this book. I figured it was new to match v5 with the Feb. '07 release date. I called Sybex 2 or 3 days ago and was told 2nd week of February. I noticed the author thing, but didn't ask about it.

Great, thanks for the reply. Any other helpful study tips?

I was told 2nd week of February now when I contacted Sybex about this book. Haha, by now it'll probably have to be completely revised for v5 modules/objectives Smiley

Thank you for the info, it's helpful. I understand what you're saying about the time limit. I was offered a pretty good package from the gentleman I was dealing with there, but he gave me a link to a demo for the CEH and I was not very impressed. Yes, it's a demo, but I still thought that it could have explained a little more in-depth information. What's your opinion as far as the quality of the information? Does it seem to cover what it should?
1858  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / QuickCert/ SpecializedSolutions on: January 23, 2007, 09:47:35 AM
Has anyone ever used QuickCert/SpecializedSolutions for any certification studying? Anything to say about them if you have?

CadillacGolfer and slimjim100, thanks for the info.

Don, yes that was the book. Still can't remember where I saw it advertised, but that is the one.
1860  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Ethics question on: January 16, 2007, 12:04:04 PM
I've not seen anything about this posted or written anywhere, so maybe some of you can answer this question. I noticed there was a book advertised somewhere (maybe even in a post by someone here, can't remember where I saw it; if I find it I'll post the title) about aggressive network defense. This has always been something I've been a little curious about and it brings me to my question: Is it ethical to attack your attacker?

Thanks,
V
