1411  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Being new to ethical hacking... on: December 30, 2007, 03:04:32 PM
Hi kaizo,

Welcome to EH-Net. Aside from having C knowledge, what other skills do you have? Before getting too far into ethical hacking, you need to have a solid foundation of networking and security topics. Without knowing your background, it makes it a lot harder to point you in the right direction. Ex. I don't want to recommend that you pick up a Network+ book if you've got 5 years of network administration experience behind you. Give us a little more of a background about yourself and you'll surely get some responses.

I think I've seen parts of this, but never the whole thing. Will have to check it out this weekend sometime. Thanks for the link Smiley

Hi JD, and welcome to the community. Being in high school, you've got a lot of time to figure out what direction you'd like to go in (heh, some of us still aren't sure Wink)

Nothing wrong with starting early and getting a jumpstart on things though. I'm sure you'll find the members here to be very helpful as you research, study, and learn.

1414  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: HELP: Cookie stealing support(me as a victim) on: December 28, 2007, 10:36:37 AM
Just looking at the JS code you've supplied, it doesn't appear to be sending data to anyone (except maybe the 'CommMembers.aspx' file). It appears that it's adding a moderator of a specific account ID.

You can go delete your temporary files/cookies if you're that paranoid about it.

I could also be mis-understanding your question, please clarify if that's the case.

Thank you for pointing this out. I'm sure Don will be looking into the fix for this ASAP.

Good presentation, I enjoyed it. I'll be checking out the paper as Chris suggested shortly Smiley

1418  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: which certifications are very good.. on: December 27, 2007, 07:29:47 AM
That's hard to say without knowing what your interests are. You could be a network professional with no certifications, vendor neutral certifications, or vendor specific certifications. It depends on what you want to learn.
1419  Resources / Mass Media / Re: Tiger Team TV Show about real hackers on: December 27, 2007, 07:27:52 AM
I actually DVR'ed the episodes and just watched them last night. I thought they were definitely pretty interesting. It wasn't as technical as I was expecting it to be, but the episodes were both pretty good.

I did laugh a little at the first episode when the head guy (anyone ever heard of him, or the group, before?) came out and said "we are the best," or something close to that. They definitely seem pretty good at what they do though, no doubt about that.

I'm about to go search around for one of those card copiers Smiley

Where are you located at? Are you looking for something local or are you willing to travel?
1421  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: what is the benefit of ec-council LPT certification on: December 27, 2007, 07:20:51 AM
The LPT is a penetration testing certification (sort of) from EC-Council. They do not refer to it as a certification, but as a 'license.'

When you earn your LPT, you have access to proprietary EC-Council documents. This includes all the paperwork that would be involved in a penetration test, all the customer documents and such. You also receive a copy of their software to help automate the process. It allows you to add all your tools into one central location, run them from there, and then put the output back into it. It will then generate your report documentation.

As for projects and assignments, once you have earned your LPT you can apply to be a member of the EC-Council Tiger Team. I'm not too familiar with it, but from my understanding when a business contacts EC-Council about having a penetration test, they refer them to either a local member of the Tiger Team or to the Tiger Team as a whole.

Hopefully that helps get you started. I'd imagine that if you sent an email to 'info@eccouncil.org' you may get some more information.

1424  Columns / RichM / Re: [Article]-Review: EnGarde Secure Linux (LiveCD) on: December 07, 2007, 02:11:42 PM
I've been using EnGarde for my network firewall at home for over a year and have had no problems with it.

The webtool sometimes will hang when logging in (not sure why), but other than that I have no complaints.

Chris: you still have to get a username/pass to get the updates, but you no longer have to go to the website and then input it into the tool. The first time you login to the webtool, it prompts you to click a 'GDSN Configuration' (or similar) button that will automatically create/add the user/pass for you. You then receive an email with that information for your records. A little less than desirable, but still better.
