1381  Resources / Mass Media / Re: Tiger Team TV Show about real hackers on: December 27, 2007, 07:27:52 AM
I actually DVR'ed the episodes and just watched them last night. I thought they were definitely pretty interesting. It wasn't as technical as I was expecting it to be, but the episodes were both pretty good.

I did laugh a little at the first episode when the head guy (anyone ever heard of him, or the group, before?) came out and said "we are the best," or something close to that. They definitely seem pretty good at what they do though, no doubt about that.

I'm about to go search around for one of those card copiers Smiley

Where are you located at? Are you looking for something local or are you willing to travel?
1383  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: what is the benefit of ec-council LPT certification on: December 27, 2007, 07:20:51 AM
The LPT is a penetration testing certification (sort of) from EC-Council. They do not refer to it as a certification, but as a 'license.'

When you earn your LPT, you have access to proprietary EC-Council documents. This includes all the paperwork that would be involved in a penetration test, all the customer documents and such. You also receive a copy of their software to help automate the process. It allows you to add all your tools into one central location, run them from there, and then put the output back into it. It will then generate your report documentation.

As for projects and assignments, once you have earned your LPT you can apply to be a member of the EC-Council Tiger Team. I'm not too familiar with it, but from my understanding when a business contacts EC-Council about having a penetration test, they refer them to either a local member of the Tiger Team or to the Tiger Team as a whole.

Hopefully that helps get you started. I'd imagine that if you sent an email to 'info@eccouncil.org' you may get some more information.

1386  Columns / RichM / Re: [Article]-Review: EnGarde Secure Linux (LiveCD) on: December 07, 2007, 02:11:42 PM
I've been using EnGarde for my network firewall at home for over a year and have had no problems with it.

The webtool sometimes will hang when logging in (not sure why), but other than that I have no complaints.

Chris: you still have to get a username/pass to get the updates, but you no longer have to go to the website and then input it into the tool. The first time you login to the webtool, it prompts you to click a 'GDSN Configuration' (or similar) button that will automatically create/add the user/pass for you. You then receive an email with that information for your records. A little less than desirable, but still better.

Best of luck for your studies.
1388  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Image Security on: December 04, 2007, 08:04:49 AM
What's the best option to protect an image on a website? Also considering that the image is not officially copyrighted or such.

At this point, I'm thinking my best option is to place a watermark over the image. Anyone have any other thoughts/suggestions?

TIA

As Kev said, relax and make sure you get plenty of sleep the night before. If you're looking for last-minute review, glance through the objectives of the exam to make sure you've got them all covered.
1391  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: MS Security Cert Landscape Moving into 2008 on: November 28, 2007, 10:20:47 AM
Thanks for that info, Don. I actually watched a presentation on the MS website about the new server and certifications. I'll check and see if I have the link for everyone.

For those of you wondering the certification path, I'll outline it here..

The MCSA is becoming MCITP Server Administrator. To achieve this credential, you'll need to pass only 3 exams:

70-642:TS:Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure
70-640:TS:Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
70-646:Pro:Windows Server 2008 Server Administrator

The MCSE is becoming MCITP Enterprise Administrator. To achieve this credential, you'll need to pass 5 exams:

70-620:TS:Windows Vista Client*
70-643:TS:Windows Server 2008 Application Platform
70-642:TS:Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure
70-640:TS:Windows Server 2008 Active Directory
70-647:Pro:Windows Server 2008 Enterprise Administrator

* can be substituted with a client/office combo exam (forgot the number)

As for upgrading, there are two upgrade exams (1 for MCSA and 1 for MCSE) that basically combine several of the above exams into 1.

70-649:TS:Upgrading MCSE on 2003 to 2008 (AD, Network, App exams)
70-648:TS:Upgrading MCSA on 2003 to 2008 (AD, Network)

In addition to those, if you're an MCSE looking to become an Enterprise Administrator, you'll need to take a client exam and the Enterprise Admin. exam. If you're an MCSA looking to become a Server Administrator, you'll only need to take the Server Admin. exam in addition to the upgrade exam.

Hope that gives everyone a good idea about what's to come with the new certifications, I know I found it quite interesting and am looking forward to them Smiley

1393  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Free Cell Phone lookup on: November 26, 2007, 05:47:11 PM
Do free cell phone lookups exist anywhere? Reverse lookups that is? I'm not having much luck, they all seem to lead back to Intelius somehow which charges $15 (which isn't too bad; but if I can find a cheaper solution I'm all for it Smiley
1394  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Re: CEH v5 Question... on: November 24, 2007, 12:37:31 PM
I'm not sure about practice exams, but if you have read through the official EC-Council CEH v5 courseware and use the Official CEH Review Guide (which also includes a CD with practice exams), you should do fine.

Good luck and let us know how it goes Smiley
