Resources / Career Central / Re: In college, need advice for career map.

If you're in school, a good option would be a college job with the CS department working with the Sysadmins. I'm a bit biased since I am currently a Sysadmin, but they're the ones in the trenches and you'd get good work experience in addition to some extra money in your pocket. If there aren't any college jobs available, you can always volunteer your services. Most college campuses I've been to don't have all the resources they could use...
Good luck!

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Forensics / Re: Windows 7 Password Retrieval

There is really very little you can do to stop this sort of attack. If you have physical access to the computer, you can ALWAYS get root/administrator access.
That being said, the easiest thing to do would be to use a tool like Konboot to reset the password. This doesn't accomplish your goal of verifying that the password was purposefully changed, but again I will emphasize that there is really nothing you can do when someone has physical access to the computer.

Woohoo!!! I passed!
I had forgotten from taking my RHCT a year ago how intimidating the test can be when you first sit down and look at all the tasks you have to complete...
That being said...once you actually start doing the tasks, they seem to get easier and easier....
Anyone considering the RHCE or RHCT, I would say if you feel comfortable on the command-line and you can find information in man pages/reading config file comments quickly, you will do fine provided you know how to configure the basics without help. (You just don't have time to spend all your time looking at man pages.)
Thanks all for your well-wishes!!!

Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / GCIH - GIAC Certified Incident Handler / Re: GCIH- Can I do it, please help

The exam is definitely do-able coming straight out of school. In fact, when I took the class, I had no experience in Incident Handling. I was familiar with most of the tools from messing around at home, but I had not professional experience with them.
You will get out of the class what you put into it. My suggestion would be to go on SANS website and look at the topics for each day and start reading, experimenting with those topics that you are the weakest in. The more knowledge you bring into the class, the more you will get out of the class...
While you're at the conference, GIAC will likely offer a SANS at Night talk on the certification process. You should definitely attend that. They give some great advice on preparation for a GIAC exam.
Good luck!

And to add what Dynamik said, I'd certainly count the experience you have in computer repair on your CV. You may not be running a full-fledged business out of your house, but as you stated it is a "pc repair business." It'd be on my resume/CV...
The A+, Network+, and Security+ combined with your pc repair experience are probably enough to get you in the door for the entry-level position with most companies. Its all about how you market yourself....
