46  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Hacking Dojo - New Year resolution offer on: January 06, 2013, 01:15:49 PM
I'm guessing you're the individual that signed up using a Juno.com email address. I've sent multiple emails to you (even via gmail) but I suspect they've all been blocked, even when I replied to your email.

1) check your spam folder or unblock hackingdojo.com emails
2) send me a PM here with your info and we can go from there

ajohnson - Just a range of VM machines I've set up myself. Windows XP, Metasploitable / Metasploitable v2, De-ICE Challenges, OWASP BWA - the basics. I'll check out what other labs people have set up and take that on board for what I can integrate myself Smiley Thanks for your reply.

The advice in this thread is really good. I would also suggest at some point that you include some hardware in your lab, so you can understand how to exploit network protocols / network hardware... it's pretty fun showing a client you own their entire network.

I have been asked a question regarding the latest discount at HackingDojo.com  more than a few times since I posted, and wanted to clarify:

The 50% off offer is officially for just the Shodan and the Novice class - however, for those people who can test out of the Shodan and move into the Nidan course (by testing out the first week of enrollment), we will allow those students to move on to the Nidan course for the discounted cost.
49  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Hacking Dojo - New Year resolution offer on: December 31, 2012, 11:08:25 AM
I wanted to announce a couple things regarding the Hacking Dojo:

1) The pilot with the iPads is over. Thanks for those interested in participating.
2) I am cutting the cost of the Novice and Shodan training courses by 50% for a (very) limited time.

I wanted to offer people a new year's resolution to get into the professional pentesting field, and I figured lowering the financial barrier for a limited time would be the way to go about doing so. For those who track the enrollment fees at Hacking Dojo, you will know I have never given this deep of a discount before. This discounted membership retains lifetime access, live mentoring sessions, access to the online lab, etc.... no changes there - simply a temporary drop in price. The discount is already reflected in the signup links, including the monthly subscription (which is now $75 for 6 months). Once the discount offer has concluded, the prices will be adjusted appropriately.

In conclusion, I hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable holiday season, and enjoy the New Year!

That's actually pretty good - naturally, it needs to be modified based on the actual network architecture / security posture / etc... but that's probably why they say "we suggest."

Was putting toys together for the kids.

This year we went the route of movies and books for gifts. Man, is the house quite... Great for me and the mrs!

Just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season! Be safe over the next week so we can have more great forum chats next year as well!

This site is a good start - there has been a lot of topics dedicated to learning how to become a professional. Check out some of the past posts and I'm sure you'll be busy a while learning / grabbing links / finding resources that will get you on your way.

Linux is an important OS to be comfortable in - most of the tools are written for use on Linux platforms, plus many of the tools themselves have that "Linux feel" in it's interface. after that, start practicing on different targets - download compromisable LiveCDs / virtual images and go to town... that in itself will push you to learn more specific skills so you know how to better perform a specific attack. Anyway, Good luck!... and happy hunting!
54  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Hacking Dojo - Pilot program with iPad2 on: December 22, 2012, 03:19:09 PM
We are launching a pilot program that includes a pre-loaded, free iPad 2 for new students. This is limited to new Hacking Dojo students who sign up between now and the end of the month for either the Shodan or Shodan+Nidan course (does not include new students using subscription payments). For specifics on the iPad, check out this page. To sign up and be part of the pilot program, visit: hackingDojo.com

As a personal note, the idea of offering to students an iPad designed for pentesting developed out of my personal use of an iPad during onsite engagements... I will be including on the Hacking Dojo iPads the same personal notes/material I use when I'm onsite conducting pentests, along with course material, useful apps, etc.

Feel better Tom, glad you're recovering.

Thanks, and for the love of all that is holy, everyone... eat your fiber.  Undecided

As was speculated, I had some additional health issues the last couple weeks that were left over from my hospital stay about 5 weeks ago (the peritonitis resulting from the perforated colon had caused me to become septic, and the initial antibiotics needed to be extended... But the good news is that helped and I did not have to return to the hospital for surgery. Unfortunately, that extended my overall recovery time, but at least now I have had a couple days of being pain free).

I currently have 387 emails to wade through, and will respond to them asap. Sorry for the delays.
57  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Bitcoins at HackingDojo.com on: November 10, 2012, 02:09:46 PM
After some encouragement by my 13 year old daughter (who participated in the DefCon Kids bitcoin challenge at DefCon this year), I have decided to accept bitcoins at the Hacking Dojo. Figured "why not," and hopefully my daughter will learn more about bitcoins, finances, and the Internet along the way.

Information about payment using bitcoins is located at the bottom of the home page, at: HackingDojo.com

Hope you're feeling better.

Thank you, sir. I am out of the hospital, but not out of the woods. Next 10 days will tell, but I don't think there will be any complications.

What about my issue?
I didnt even get to start the course. I waited for course confirmation details and nothing came. All the refund emails were ignored.

Prats84 - I will PM you and we can figure out what happened.

Even though I haven't had any bad experience with the Hacking Dojo, I think you should contact http://attrition.org/ about this. (Twitter: attritionorg , Email: jericho[at]attrition.org)

Dude - pretty harsh, especially for right out of the gate, don't you think?
