How about this....you should just go ahead and post which jobs you're applying to so we know which ones we don't have a chance at. You'd save everyone on this list a lot of grief... LOL Wish it were that easy to grab a job. ;-)

I'm putting my resume out, looking for a new job. Travel: OK... Moving away from Colorado Springs: Not OK. I have worked as a telecommuter for years before, so am totally comfortable with working remotely, if that's an option. My resume can be seen here: http://heorot.net/Wilhelm-CV.pdfFeel free to spread the resume out to your friends that are looking for someone. Thanks!

I'm heading to Vegas in about two hours, and want to meet up with as many of the EH board as I can while I'm out there for DC 18 - I will be tweeting constantly, so everyone will know where to find me and what I'm doing. If anyone wants to get together for a chat, a beer, or to hang out, tweet me. Don't be shy - tweet me!... and we'll hang.

I have already purchased and read Tom's Professional Penetration Testing and I can say that I enjoyed it very much! I liked this book too! Can I ask a favor - for anyone who read / liked the book, could you swing over to amazon and post your opinion? It's been out almost a year, and only six people commented so far... and there have been thousands and thousands sold. O_o

I received quite a few responses from people willing to help; however, I undoubtedly left some people hanging about the next step (I suck at keeping track of emails, sometimes). If you contacted me, and I didn't get back to you, or give you the link to find out more info, can you send me another email/PM?
Thanks!

Out of curiosity, does anyone use BT in a formal penetration test? I use it in my lab, but from day one, all the pentest teams I've worked with roll our own attack platforms (less bloat, more control, better understanding of what's on the system, etc.).
So... anyone use it professionally, other than in a lab?

I'm starting a fairly (ok, enormously) ambitious project, and am reaching out for others in the community to help out. I have to say up-front that there's a need for a lot of material related to hacking, so I'm looking for people that really want to contribute - not just check out what's happening. Although I don't want to get into too much detail, here are some key words that provide some idea of what I'm talking about:
hacking open source creative commons web site education big... no, scratch that. Really big
I'm also looking for people who want to be leads as well - also, any work done will be fully attributed, but released as creative commons. If interested in helping out, drop me a line at twilhelm [at] heorot [dot] net or in a private message here.
Sorry to be so cryptic, but I don't want to announce anything yet, until it's really worth mentioning. Looking forward to hearing from you.

They upgraded a lot of the rooms last year about this time - we stayed in a renovated room, and had no complaints at all. Not sure what the reviews are saying, but the last four years I've stayed there and it's been fine. Now, the hotel Pennsylvania (HOPE conference) was a shit-hole. The hotel at phreaknic was a bit run down, but I'd go there again... not HOPE. Definitely the Riv, though.
Plus, when you're stumbling for the hotel room, you don't have to leave the facility. Major plus.

Things have improved since DC14 - defcon has the entire covention area now (at 14 they shared it with some cop convention and a national dart competition). Plenty of space to spread out; besides the wireless hacking and the lockpicking, they added hardware hacking. The riv allocated many more rooms the last couple years as well, but it's still cheaper to stay at circus circus across the street.
The crowds, though, have gotten huge. At 14, I think there were around 5k; last year it hit almost 10k. It's insane, but now there are a lot more things happening now that all the extra attendees are trying to find something to do in the evening. I've been wandering the halls after midnight and saw plenty of people hanging out. There are a couple convention suites that were open to anyone during the evenings, so there were places to hang out, chat, and get drunk, even for those who are first-timers.

I keep wanting to go, but they keep canceling it every year. In truth, it's a blast - even if you don't go to the parties, there are people hanging out everywhere; it's just a matter of walking up to complete strangers and saying "hi"... next thing you know you're hacking something. A lot of people go and totally avoid the talks, and still maintain a full schedule. What you get out of defcon is what you put into it. I go every year with my wife - since she's getting a degree in computer security, she's as much into it as I am. Brought my 10 year old last time; bought her a set of lockpicks and got pictures of her picking her first lock. (note: it's really not kid-friendly, and nobody will make allowances if you bring your kid, which is just the way I like it). If you need a ride or a room, check out the defcon forums - there are people who post those types of requests all the time. Also, check out your local defcon group - chances are, one of them will be driving; however, plane tickets are pretty cheap into vegas, so it might be cheaper to fly than split gas.
