I don't know if I'd go quite that far. Try the removal instructions from Symantec (or whoever your AV vendor is) first before you go burning everything to the ground:

http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2008-112203-2408-99&tabid=3

I agree. Try to disinfect before you toast your computers. If you cannot you may have no other choice.

3  Resources / Career Central / Computer Science degree vs. anything else? on: October 04, 2008, 09:56:00 PM
Hello all,

I am currently in my second year of college and i was wondering what you all think about what type of degree to get from a school that does not offer a network security degree. I have talked to many people on this topic and i have people on both sides. I am just wondering what it would be wise to major in for a position in network security. More specifically i am leaning toward pen-testing because i cannot get enough of it. From doing tests in my own lab to reading forums and books on exploits, techniques, etc. i feel like sleeping gets in my way of learning haha. Anyways what do you guys think? Computer Science or something else such as business administration or something?

Thanks in advance
jakx

nice! haha....well i guess i give you credit for your enthusiasm...probably not the best/smartest way to try and learn though. Try grabbing some books for starters.
5  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: using backtrack as a daily use linux distro on: September 11, 2008, 09:19:58 AM
I used backtrack 2 for a little while as a everyday OS and i did not seem to have too many problems. I was not doing a whole lot outside of pentesting though. I guess it really just depends on what you want to be doing. I now have switched to just the BT usb like RoleReversal but its up to you.

Try it and if you dont like it switch back.   Smiley

Good for you!!!

If you are serious, keep in mind that this is an ethical place.  Start by picking up a book or three and start studying.  This isn't like Star Wars where some Jedi is going to take you as a Padawan and teach you the ways of the force (had to throw in a Star Wars reference...sorry!).

Don't be lazy....study, read, research, learn!

hahaha aww man i was looking foward to meeting my Jedi Master!?     Grin

Good advice btw...
7  Resources / Tutorials / Re: Network Security from whre to start on: September 11, 2008, 08:57:35 AM
Find out what you like to do. that is a very broad question. For a solid foundation I would learn how TCP/IP works and learn a few programming languages such as python and perl.
