In my experiance anyway.

Seems its just me then, I have not had much luck reading his books.
Just seems to rub me up the wrong way some how and I cant get into them.

If the library had them I might have a read, but not going to risk a purchase.

Yeah I heard about this. Some big book stored have a big book printing machine. Take your book in on a removable storage device, few quid and hours later you have your masterpiece printed.

65  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Hardware / Creating the Pen Test Lab, and saving power. Atom Dual Core Setup on: August 19, 2009, 03:14:55 AM
I thought I would put a quick post up for anyone who has been considering going with an Atom setup.

So in the past I have had a mixture of VMs running from my WHS box and ESXi box. One box was an old Athlon, and the other 64bit Athlon. Both boxes consumed over 160watts and I one of these was supposed to be my PC Gaming rig, anyway the main driver was to save some cash on my already big techno powered electricity bill.

So I know my single core Atom Aspire One uses not alot of power, and isnt a bad performer. So I start looking at the different mobos available that will fit in an ATX case, and they are all limited to 2Gb RAM, and not many dual cores.

Last month I came across the Point of View NVIDIA ION Mini ITX, which apprarently if you can afford it supports 8GB DDR2 800Mhz SO-DIMM memory. So anyway I went for this with 4GB DDR2 800mhz memory with the 1.6Ghz Dual Core Atom.

I have to say I am chuffed. I couldnt setup a ESXi server on it as the onboard HD controller isnt supported, and I dont have a PCI-E controller to test so I stuck with WHS (2003 Server) as the base and ran VMware Server ontop. I have 8VMs on the go and all seems to handle perfectly. I am really impressed, and best of all at full tilt with 4 HDs its only eating a max of 60watts.

Certainly worth considering if you want something reasonably priced, low on power consumption, and reasonable capabilities.

Interesting article, I know they fixed the used exploit from this years pwn2own at release time.

See how it holds up in next years testing.

I still prefer the add ons and plugins of Firefox myself.

Just for information sharing purposes, I ran W7 RC on one of my boxes with no issues.
Now running W7 RTM 32 and 64 bit, and occassionaly Windows Explorer crashes, forcing an application restart.

Obviously RTM isnt a GOLD release, so few patches to come in the future, just thought I would share.
68  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: Any Good User Education Resources on: August 19, 2009, 02:02:41 AM
I would agree with all things posted, I would only add two things I have found to be of benefit in my experiance.

Try to add some knowledge and benefit they can use outside of work. For example, you could discuss the importance of AV in the organisation etc, and also give some links to good free AV products they can use at home to improve the security there.

Another is, where possible give some real example demonstrations. For example for patching, you could give a quick demonstration of how a machine without a certain patch could be easily compromised, then also give a takeaway as to how easily setup patching at home.

Awareness can be a challenge, but its something I think you can make enjoyable, and rewarding.
69  Resources / Career Central / Re: Is this the right career for me on: August 19, 2009, 01:57:09 AM
3PILOGU3,

try not to lose your passion and drive, appreciate it can be frustrating.
Another avenue to perhaps spark your interest could be to setup your own blog, or contribute on others, or create a magazine article on something you are working on.

These are all great ways to give you some focus, and also increase your exposure.

Chin up and good luck.

Net send has been disabled since XP SP2 I believe.
An alternative to consider is the MSG command.
