Thanks for the information guys, I have just done some searching and its looking to be just under $2000 just for the flights and room, so I think its going to be to much, really need to plan for these things.
Thanks again for sharing the info, and have a great time.

Hiya Guys,
Where do people stay at this event and how much is a room per night all in? Also is it a daily cost to get into Defcon, or a one off fee? Also how much do you normally need to spend per day, food, drink etc?
I am trying to get an idea how much this event would cost for me to attend from the UK. It will probably be to much but I wont know unless I have a look at working it out.
Thanks in advance.
Dale

Snouto, everyone in life has an opinion, doesnt make it the right or wrong opinion, but it is specific to them. It is good to want to achieve things and have goals in your life. So if you want to study the tools and topics relating to CEH go ahead. In my opinion you dont have to be a full time pentester etc to be an Ethical Hacker, it can be a hobby not just a career. I work in Information Security, but my interests span the whole IT and Information Security spectrum. I prefer to have a broad range of knowledge and skill sets, others prefer to become the master of one. Each has advantages and disadvantages. I would go with what you want to do, perhaps study the CEH part time, and maybe in the future this may lead you to getting a full time CEH job, perhaps you will stay in programming but with a much better understanding of various vulnerabilities and techniques to review your code. I think you have a lot to gain, and little to use. All the best with what ever you decide to do in life.

Heh,
I just very quickly had a look around before getting back to writing this report (having to work at the weekend sucks). I probably wont have time to try it this weekend but something called SOX is used apparently:
Sox is needed to listen to the raw PCM output from the headset sox -t raw -r 8000 -c 1 -s -w <recorded .raw file> -t ossdsp /dev/dsp Sox can also change the raw PCM to .wav sox -t raw -r 8000 -c 1 -s -w <recorded .raw file> -t wav -r 44100 -c 2 out.wav Make your own message to send: sox -t wav -r 44100 -c 2 <your .wav-file> -t raw -r 8000 -c 1 -s -w message.raw

I have been messing about this with software in my lab, but I am really fairly limited into my knowledge of bluetooth related vulnerabilities. I have messed with bluesnarfer and bluebugger in the past with success in the lab, but a non security related issue has me stuck and maybe you guys can help.
Admitedly I have not had much time to google, but when using carwhisperer you are required to use an input file and this is some form of audio .RAW file, then output then will also be a .RAW file.
My question is, what tool can be used to create and playback these audio .RAW files?
If know one has experiance, I will post an answer when I find some spare time to do some further hunting.
Thanks in advance. Dale
