16  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Wireless / Re: I want to "hack" my wifi on: October 20, 2008, 12:58:58 PM
Yeah, its a doddle 64bit or 128bit without clients.
Just inject the traffic, and away you go.

WEP really is worthless, but better than nothing for the home user.

Josh,

thanks for your response.
I was just trying to get an insight to how Pen Testers like yourself approach this sorts of situations.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

I dont play WOW, but I did play Star Wars Galaxies when it first came out.
I was then on the EVE Online Beta, then played that for just over a year
Now I dont play any MMORPG as I just cant dedicate the time to be successful, and make the monthly subscription worthwhile.
19  Resources / Career Central / Re: "virtual" jobs? on: October 09, 2008, 01:45:37 PM
In a previous role for a very large global organisation I worked from home full time 100% for two years.

Thats the advantage of technology Smiley

I think personally it would be very difficult to do this from the start, as person to person interaction is an important part in establishing relationships, trust and respect from your co workers.
However the use of IM, Telco's and Video conferencing makes the more an more possible to operate a virtual work force.

One thing I will add to this discussion, just incase it gets overlooked.
The objective here is to secure and safeguard the information on the device in the event of its loss or theft.

Also it is worth considering the approach you will take to this encrypted device in the event of a forensic investigation. If forensics is something your organisation has / or will require then it might be worth scoping this into the testing plan.

The last thing you want is an incident, and go to do a forensic investigation only to find no one knows how to proceed.

Just food for thought as it were.

Remember its a life long love

Exactly, I really think its a passion thing.
As with most things, you will be better at something if you have a passion as its not a chore.

As long as we having technology, there will be cyber crimes.
The InfoSec field has some many subsets, there is so much to choose from.

I still think we are in a techno infancy, cant wait to see what the future brings.

RoleReversal has also done this course, and with positive feedback.
I am also thinking of having a look at this at some point.

Let us know how you get on.
28  Resources / Career Central / Re: Computer Science degree vs. anything else? on: October 06, 2008, 08:54:59 AM
My degree was Computer Science and Information Management.
The main thing here is that there are also some business modules available which I think are always of a benefit, you need to understand the business requriements, the lingo etc if you want the budget.

This was a fair few years ago now so I dont know what things are like now, especially outside the UK. My only knowledge is that of the work I am doing on a foundation degree course, on giving some tutoring and advice on subject matter.

I would choose a degree that has a good variation of modules, so you can tailor it to what you want to get out of it. I still have arguments internally as to is a degree worth it or not, and I still have mixed opinions.

More so now I think its a case of everyone else has them, so you need one to, for interview consideration.

All the best with it though.

Welcome to the forum mate.

My advice would continue with the schooling and like you say do a degree in Computer Science, this will give you a good platform. Focus on networking and security modules, and take it from there.

I am sure everyones background is different on here, but I did computing at college, and then a computer science degree, whilst working in computing on helpdesk etc. Then just worked my way up, did Networking for a fair few years, then onto security, just seems natural progression.

Also have a look at the books people recomend on here, might be worth having a look at one depending on your knowledge to date.

My advise is to have a long term goal.

I think it depends on the tools you will use.
I studied the EnCE as EnCase was the tool I used at work when I used to do forensics.
