16  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Wireless / Re: WIFI WPS brute forace attack Faster than cracking WPA/WPA2 on: April 04, 2012, 03:36:30 PM
I think that this is the most exciting part about security, well for me anyways. Stuff like this gives people like us a reason to think outside of the box to overcome these security shortcuts. I'm looking forward to trying to find a way to patch this flaw. But even after you shut one door another opens. Nothing is ever stopped, only hindered.

Chris,

Thanks for the speedy reply. It does look like there is support out there for the card. I'm a tad out of touch as I'm not in the "states" and internet where I am is restricted. Once I get back and update my gear to R2 It looks like it should be cake to get working. Now I have something else to look forward to once I'm home Smiley

So I was browsing amazon.com earlier today looking for a new usb wifi card (my internal works pretty good but I want more range) And I ran across this guy. I know that Alfa has a good rep with being BT compatible but I read that this new one was having issues. Has anyone heard of a fix yet or should I just stick with the 036H model with the extended antt?

You should have access to various DoD-related training material. If you're current position qualifies or considers you as IA then there are different things out there. You may want to look into the CERT VTE as well. Lots of good training there that may be free for you (CISSP, SSCP, Sec+, Net+, CEH and a whole host of others).

In my previous unit I was an IMO so I do have my Centcom IA and ISSO certs as well as nearly finishing up the Linux+ training (my prefered server OS). I started the C|EH but the program is kinda buggy and my internet connection right now leaves much to be desired.

I'll have to look into that, I'm trying not to break the bank as I'll be getting out of the service in about a year and would like to have a bit saved up for when I go to college.

Well after doing some more looking into it I'm pretty sure the mobo is fried. I swapped RAM with a buddy's laptop and still nothing. I also tried my USB copy of BT4 with no luck Sad

Just download FTK imager (http://accessdata.com/support/adownloads) and go from there. Not necessarily a fan of forensics tools on a pentesting OS. FTK Imager's sole purpose is data recovery.

Thanks, I'll have to look into this one when I have some free time later.

Jimbob:

I'll have to give that article a look over. I purchased the Laptop about 8 months ago and the HDD crapped out about month 7 :/ I did some basic troubleshooting and what I could gather from the HP website was that the HDD failed (not so helpful). I have recently come into poession of the cables needed and a forensic bridge to hook it to my other laptop to try to rip the data.

Jamie:

Yeah, I had found a few tools but they were all kinda $$$ I know at some point I'll break down and purchase one eventually but I'd rahter do it once I have a better grasp of what's out there. At this point the laptop won't even go to the BIOS screen. I feel the HDD attempt to spin up but then it just stops. It sucks because I had a good amount of music and documents on there :/

Jamie,

Thanks for the warm welcome Smiley I'm going to have to wait a few more months before I can do any hands on work with certs as I am currently deployed :/ . Aside from that I have done a good amount of the course work for Sec+ and Net+ and was looking to test for those when I get back to the US. I was also looking to get my CCNA (a buddy and I are going to split the cost of a CCNA lab kit when we get back). I have been looking at Hackingdojo.com as well as the OSWP but I want to see if I can get the military to pay for it as "professional training."

This may be a stupid question but will the cert for this be recognized by employers?
25  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Forensics / Good HDD Forensics tool on BT5 on: April 02, 2012, 05:37:57 AM
So I've recently started looking into digital forensics and was wondering which tool on BT5 that EH would recommend for data recovery for HDD. I currently have a 750Gb laptop HDD that recently crapped out and I wondered if it was possible to recover data from it?

Do you currently work in IT or is this just a hobby/interest of yours that you'd like to eventually make a career?

I am currently in the Army where I work on Satallite communacations systems as well as computer/voip networks. I also am certified to do fiber optic cable. I’m going to be getting out in the next year and would like to give myself a leg up before I finish my service.

Howdy to all. I've been a "guest" on EH for about 3-4 months now and finally decided I'd regester. I'm just starting my journey into Pen testing, exploitation, and forensics. I've been tinkering with BT since BT4 came out, so not very long lol. My end goal is to become a Pentester/ CEH and I'm really excited to become a sponge for all the knoledge out there. At this point I have a fairly good grasp on Linux (I run Ubuntu and CentOS) and some basic knowledge of SOLARIS. I also have started to learn the wonders of programming with Python.

If there is anyone out there looking to mentor or chat with a newbie and help guide me in the right direction I'd be most grateful. Keep on tinkering Smiley
