however I know for a fact a computer isn't that graphical in the filesystem. Actually, I did learn a little from it.

There are actually a few graphical filesystem viewing tools out there, fsv is actually somewhat similar to some of the movie special effects

I teach security for one of the online universities (that shall remain nameless) and have seen HUGE variability in instructor quality. One thing that can be used to weed out the really bad ones is achievement of the NSA Center of Excellence. Then again, there aren't that many schools that have it, so you would be seriously narrowing your choices.
832  Resources / Mass Media / Re: Air Force's Cyber Command General's slashdot interview on: July 03, 2008, 08:21:12 PM
The HQ, for now, is at Barksdale, there will be two groups at Lackland, and there are two more still up for grabs. He said that they will eventually have folks in every state as they would have a strong national guard presence.

According to Google, your IP is not PII

http://googlepublicpolicy.blogspot.com/2008/02/are-ip-addresses-personal.html

I suppose if we follow that chain of logic, neither is your mailing address, phone number, etc... as they will be re-issued to someone else at some point.

836  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Incident Response / Re: 2008 Data Breach Investigation Report on: July 03, 2008, 07:57:22 PM
This does make for interesting reading. It also would seem to fairly directly refute the "80% (or whatever the number was) of all attacks come from the inside" line.
837  Resources / Mass Media / Re: Air Force's Cyber Command General's slashdot interview on: July 03, 2008, 07:54:39 PM
When asked direct questions about the activity that said command would take part in, he definitely put the emphasis on defense and skirted around addressing offensive capabilities. It sounded to me like there would be an offensive component, but he wasn't going to talk about it. Any kind of offense in that direction would require some changing (or at least serious reinterpretation) of the rules.
838  Resources / Mass Media / Re: Air Force's Cyber Command General's slashdot interview on: July 03, 2008, 05:23:14 PM
Basically his explanation for the whole command is that they're presently unprepared to provide troops for any sort of serious cyber war (his phrase). Currently when the need arises for any kind of a hackerish person, they take a green airman and send him to school for several years, then have him shadow someone from the NSA to get real-world experience. Having a multi-year delay on being able to put someone into the fray is obviously undesirable. So with the new command, they'll have folks trained up and ready to roll.

I never claim to know anything about computers. It's like admitting that you own a pickup truck.
