I thought the 1390 was able to do packet injection.  I'll try sometime soon and let you guys know.
32  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Infosec Institute plagiarized course material from Corelan.be on: October 30, 2011, 01:25:12 PM
Whoa!  That's horrible.  It sucks that because of this, Corelan hasn't published any tutorials in the last year.  We're all suffering here... I'd love Corelan to get publishing more tutorials soon.  Smiley
33  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Malware / Re: Looking for a windows trojan on: October 30, 2011, 01:00:04 PM
Hey SephStorm,

I wouldn't use Pro Rat since most AV suites know the signature for that one.  Many people use the same Trojans (Beast, Optix Pro, Pro Rat, etc..) as well as the same Packers (Mophine, PECompress, etc..) so pretty much all AV's have sigs for those and can detect them rather easily.  I'd suggest Googling and trying to find the not well known ones such as VX Heaven and VX Chaos.

If you're going to use a popular or semi-popular trojan, toss on a Byte Adder. This basically adds garbage bytes to your trojan to confuse the AV. For this, check out StealthTools v2.

Finally, you could do some hex editing or make your own Trojan.  (lots of free trojan source code out there to recompile/decompile)

Hey urishamay.  I haven't taken it but from what I heard, this is a great course but TOUGH.  It will certainly consume every spare hour you have in your life until you complete it.  Here's a review: http://www.ethicalhacker.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,54/topic,1152.0/
35  Resources / Tools / Re: Blackbuntu on: October 28, 2011, 11:42:50 AM
Just had a quick look at Blackbuntu.  Looks like there's some stability issues mentioned and bugs (which can be fixed) relating to backspacing in the terminal and broadcom network adapters.  There's obviously a much larger community base with BackTrack though.  Maybe I'll see how the tool list compares.

Oops... should have clarified that I'm having trouble finding those types of jobs in my area of Vancouver & Victoria BC.  Thanks though. :-)
37  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Wireless / Re: I got my Alfa card today on: October 28, 2011, 11:04:57 AM
I could be wrong but I think I remember Vivek saying he didn't get as good of results from the Alfa N card as he did from the b/g one.

I was considering getting an Alfa but I checked the connection on my internal Dell wireless 1390 and it's constantly at 54Mbps so I'll stick with this one. :-)  (i was surprised)
38  Resources / Career Central / Re: Seeking advice for obtaining I.T. contract work overseas on: October 28, 2011, 10:41:54 AM
I was looking at this at one point as well.  It seems that most of the jobs in that area of the world are aimed towards Fed Gov't jobs with security clearances or DoD jobs BUT there are a few IT jobs I've seen in the past.  You may already have these sites but just in case...

Good luck!
39  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Networking / Re: CCNA Advice on: October 27, 2011, 05:23:59 PM
Good tips here on the CCNA.  I might start self-study with this if I can't get someone to pay for a Mile2 course for me.  Sucks that there's no one around my city or neighboring cities that offer CCNA courses other than the 5 day bootcamp which requires prior experience and cisco knowledge.

Whoa!  Trippy... and to think, they never consulted me first.  Huh

I'm finding it quite difficult to find any jr level security job openings.  They all seem to be senior level.  I see a lot more Network Security or Network Analyst jobs than general Security Analyst positions.  I may apply on a Network Analyst job first and then use that as a jumping off point to security from there.
43  Resources / Career Central / Re: My new career path..tell me what you think? on: October 27, 2011, 03:50:16 PM
I took and passed the GCIH.  It was an awesome course and loved the CTF event at the end.  Since I won the CTF contest, they gave me the GSEC course materials for free.  I had a look at these and yes, it has a ton of valuable info but I never wrote the exam.  Just my opinion but if you already have your Sec+, CEH and CPTE, I would think you're beyond GSEC.  I must admit that I've seen job ad's with GSEC in there too.  I'd hope if they see you have a more advanced cert then GSEC, that would be sufficient.

Here's a good list of some vulnerable web app's for learning with.  http://securitythoughts.wordpress.com/2010/03/22/vulnerable-web-applications-for-learning/

There's many good tutorials on Youtube for webgoat/webscarab.
45  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / General Certification / Re: Experience vs Certifications on: October 27, 2011, 03:41:44 PM
A full suit?!  Damn, I couldn't do that.  I just can't think straight and do my job well if I'm not comfortable.  Luckily, they let us wear anything we like (within reason) where I work now.  I tend to get a lot more work done and be more productive in jeans/t-shirt then full suit.
