Wireless issues aside, you could deploy Untangle behind the AP and filter any torrent-like activity, and block other undesirable stuff. You could also present an Acceptable Use policy users must click on.

I ran into a similar situation at a public library that offers free open wifi. The Untangle box made all the would-be torrent folks pick up and move on.

Anyone try the Hackhighschool.org lab? What is it like? Worth $150?

What excites you most about computers? There are many, many paths to choose. Network administration, web design, database design, pen testing, networking and repair, break-fix, and tons more.

I am relatively new to this forum myself, the main focus here is computer security. If you are interested in that, you are in the right place.

If they admit hacking, they could be liable for $$$$$$$$$$$$$

If they admit they screwed something up, $$$$$$$$$$$

Gonna have to blame server weevils, or solar flares, or USERS.

It was our fault.  Embarrassed

Continued thanks for the updates as you go through the labs. Nice job working through the tunneling problems.

You should submit your posts to a sleep deprivation study forum too.

No, I didn't harden it at all, just dove right in total noob style. I learned about what to tweak later on. Not storing any gold bars on it, and it really just gets use in my home office / lab / mess.

Where are you located? Perhaps someone here lives in your area.

Do you have a wireless access point? Most residential-grade routers can be hacked.

What kind of setup do you have at home? What lead you to believe there was an issue?

Seems kinda scary to not have more warning than that.

"Exam participants may not use the letters 'h', 'k', or 'm', or use the 'Enter' key. Scripts are permitted, but must be written in l33t."

I initially used it for everything, just to get used to the interface, learning how to install and update new stuff, manage files, find where stuff lives, get comfortable with the command line. All my important stuff I've got in Dropbox, email via webmail, so if I screw it badly reloading is fine.

Using it as my main OS for awhile was really the only way I was going learn it.

Did you fix the issue? If so, what worked for you?

27  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Other / Re: Distro on: September 07, 2012, 09:30:49 AM
I'm relatively new to linux, started with Ubunutu and Mepis, been running BT4 and 5 as my main OS to force myself to learn how to do basic things with it in addition to all the tools.

No worries, thanks for sharing. I didn't know people really communicated for real that way.

But you have to admit its funny as h3ll.

Fun site. I'll pass on learning l33t though. I'll spend my time on Python for now.
