46  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / CEH - Certified Ethical Hacker / Re: Sybex to Release CEH Book in 2006 on: January 26, 2007, 06:14:17 PM
That would be great. Only 1 book to lug around, instead of two loos-leaf notebooks. It would be good to get up to speed on v5 topics, too. But seeing as how I already passed the exam, I won't be able to test on the v5 stuff. If I had the $$$ for it, that is.  Grin

Good decision. And AFTER I passed the exam, Cisco decided to re-design the exam to make it tougher.  Undecided

It's supposed to be worth it, in the end. I'm still waiting for proof of that to happen.

Ok, here is the info I found on Gmail. I could never explain it as well as this page does. But for all us dummies that don't know about Gmail, this is good stuff to know.

Can't you just do a Whois on it? I'm not familiar with Gmail, other than it is Google email. But there is a lot of hostile sentiment towards gmail. Lots of it is due to Google's privacy policies. It may not be exactly on topic of this thread, but I could post a link to a page exlaining al the hostility to gmail. It would explain a lot, and may help this discussion, although it would help indirectly.

Sure, as long as you have a domain name, just do a whois. then after you do a whois, you should have an IP. Then you plug the IP in http://www.geoiptool.com/en to find where it's located. Simple.

From almost the same page; (I actually got to this page by clicking a link in the blue sidebar) is news of the first practice test released to guage your readiness for the CCIE written exam. The practice test is $279.00. eeeYowch!

Then when you're ready for the real thing, you have to shell out $$$ for travel to one of the ten sites to do it at.

Even if I wanted to go for the CCIE, none of the schools in my area could help me. Not even New Horizons. The NH by me doesn't want to shell out the dough it would take to set up a computer lab to go for the CCIE.

Article is here:

Here is an article I got in my email today from SearchNetworking.com's Ed Tittel.

"4 IT certifications for IT Pros to consider."

Nowhere on the list is Microsoft. Despite the topic of this thread, this supplies an EXCELLENT answer to the original question by p0et.
Actually, neither the CCNA or the CEH is on the list. I still maintain that the CEH is cooler than the CCNA. You'll get a lot more of "CEH? What's THAT?" then you will from a measly CCNA. At least I did. And still do, sometimes.

Oh yeah, the article is http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid7_gci1239953,00.html?track=NL-375&ad=577651&asrc=EM_NLT_938321&uid=3004399/here.]searchnetworking.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid7_gci1239953,00.html?track=NL-375&ad=577651&asrc=EM_NLT_938321&uid=3004399]http://searchnetworking.techtarget.com/tip/0,289483,sid7_gci1239953,00.html?track=NL-375&ad=577651&asrc=EM_NLT_938321&uid=3004399.]here.

Yeah, I still have it on my resume. That, along with my Citrix. Citrix CCA in Metaframe 1.8, retired on me May of 04.

I had an instructor one time swear up and down to me that when my CCNA expires Cisco wouls send me an email telling me to stop using the logo, you should roll over and die, etc., unless you recertifiy your CCNA. Cisco NEVER sent me any kind of email telling me to stop using the logo. So I still do, even though I never really had the chance to use any of it. The "school" (I use the term loosely) I went to was terrible; I had to drop out of there before I killed one of them. I went on and finsihed it on my own. Long story, but ancient history, now. Passed exam on my 5th time. Whew!

Go for the CEH.

I got my CCNA in Aug. 01. Didn't have any real hands-on exp. Still don't. CCNA expired on me in Aug 04. Cisco is a racket.  Angry   Cisco certs keep expiring on you to get you to keep re-certifying, so they can keep squeezing money out of you. CCIE is only good for two years.  Angry
At least the CEH doesn't expire on you.

If you have an employer that will pay for it, fine. I didn't; I paid for it all myself. I passed the CCNA exam on my 5th time. The only exam I passed 1st time around was 70-218, which got me my MCSA.

CEH is much more cooler than the CCNA, anyway. Grin

Exactly right. Next time someone (works especially good with the elderly)asks you to look at their box, ask them what's wrong with it. Of course they'll tell you they don't know. Then you fix their machine. They ask you how you did that. You tell 'em,"piece a cake". or something similar. They're left scratching their heads wondering what you did, you just smile at 'em and walk away. Always leave 'em wondering. Then they tell their friends, and their friends tell and their friends......word-of-mouth, babee.

Computer? Who needs a computer to hack? I don't need no stinkin' computer. I want to hack something, I look for an old Coke machine, and hack that, instead. Keeps me in practice.

Oh boy. Tyra Banks is showing me how to jump a dead car battery.

'Sup, Kev.

"If you're a GOOD hacker, everyone knows your name. If you're a GREAT hacker, no one knows who you are".

I hope I got that right. It sounds right, if memory serves.

OK, I run Firefox 1.5.0.9. Is Firefox 2.0 really that much of a difference???
58  Resources / News from the Outside World / Re: Five Hackers Who Left a Mark on 2006 on: January 07, 2007, 07:04:13 PM
I got this story in my email from my e-week newsletter sub. Very Interesting. I swear, the amount of information on the net with regards to hacking is overwhelming. It's getting really hard to keep up with it. I've been into a few other things recently, but I still love this stuff.

(I've reaaly been laying low, waiting for Negrita to cool off. I know she's been mad at me for my post long ago, now.) I wish her well in her new job, and I have to admit I'm a little jealous. But I'm in a depressed economy, and I do have quite a few things in the fire.

I'm now selling software that will prevent loss of funds due to laptop  theft. Thanks to a careless former employer, I became a victim of the chance of having my identity stolen, when a vendor they deal with lost a notebook computer.

But I have had no notice of anything bad happening. No news is good news. But I feel I can make a difference in preventng laptop and data theft. I just ran the first ad in a local newspaper about it last week. Dumb people at the newspaper messed up my email address by one character, but they got my phone numbers right. No nibbles yet, but I can feel it comin.

Happy New year, Don, and everyone else at EH-net.  Grin

According to this, the test material is CREATED in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates!! Not to get all political, but that's even less reason to consider them credible, as far as I'm concerned. At least Testkillers (Now known as Troytec) is in America. Testkillers and it's admin were sued by Microsoft, and by the skin of their teeth, they won the lawsuit, but it was because Microsoft didn't have enough proof. And it DID take a long time.

I just don't want DON getting in trouble for allowing it, and I don't want to see EH-Net fold up and blow away.

End of my soapbox.

OK, so answer this for me, then?

I'm aware of "Testkillers", where you buy actual test questions and answers. Assuming "Actual Tests" is the same thing, and they bought the practice exam from "Actual Tests", what is the difference there?

Testkillers comes out and says they are actual test questions and answers. I'm not familiar with "Actual Tests", but I take it they are the same thing. In the same vein as Transcenders, and Boson. Your'e buying these as well, so the people at Actual Tests probably wouldn't appreciate their questions and answers being posted here, either. A lawsuit is a lawsuit, wehter you're being sued by Actual Tests,Trancenders, Boson, or Testkillers.

I still maintain maybe they should do this via email or PM. Understanding the idea of teaching; Don, is it possible to perhaps set up an agreement with EC-council to have our own version here of a practice test with a bank of questions that randomize so each time it is a different test? Could we have this done WITH the permission of EC-Council? Is something like this possible? If it is, that would be great; why stop with the CEH? We could have it for the CHFI, and the CNDA, as well.

Just a thought.... Grin
