47  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Network Pen Testing / Re: Introduction & a couple questions about becoming a pen tester on: October 12, 2012, 01:46:11 AM
Hello and welcome Mr. Admin! And i hope u have great time here.

First of all i want to say something about linux i think its great for u to know because all of hackers needs it, so you'll have no problem with that. Also because of that linux becground and othe experiences which you've said you dont need to learn network basics too.

But another thing which i always recommend is virtualization i dont know if u know it or not but u will need to work with atleast virtual box however if u learn the concepts and vmware it will be better.

The next thing which i want to recommend u to learn is programming which is extremely required for exploitation. I suggest u to learn assembly and python and html (its so easy!).

About OSCP im planning to get it next year and all i know about it is so hard and much better than CEH.! You can find good info about it in offsec's website.

And i think one of great books to learn pentest is this:
www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1597494259/ref=redir_mdp_mobile

However u can find many books with a simple google search.

Good luck

ncrack is actually no longer under development (http://seclists.org/nmap-dev/2012/q3/605). Hydra and medusa are still supported, so we'll continue to see bugfixes and enhancements.

Here are some comparisons on their performance:
http://www.thc.org/thc-hydra/network_password_cracker_comparison.html
http://www.foofus.net/~jmk/medusa/medusa-compare.html
You are right about ncrack but it doesnt that ncrack is useless. U can stil use it and hydra is a pro cracker as i've mentioned before i just want him/her to search for some chances with ncrack so fast then if he failed he can perform dict or bruteforce attack.

BruteForce attacks are much better than dictionary attacks totally because of many reasons such as wordlist doesnt include all of words, it takes much more time to crack the password and so on.

However you can find good wordlists here:
http://www.skullsecurity.org/wiki/index.php/Passwords/

But u perform dictionary or bruteforce attack use the ncrack tool first. Its a very fast pass cracker open terminal in backtrack and type this command:

Ncrack -v --user <username><target address>:<service port>

Example:
Ncrack -v --user admin 127.0.0.1:21

Goodluck and let me know if u have any problem.

Just something to keep in mind for the future.

You've probably seen this already, but SecurityMonkey posted that a new Python book is coming out soon.

Violent Python:A Cookbook for Hackers, Forensic Analysts, Penetration Testers and Security Engineers.

Looks like it could be a good read.

Yes man that book is awesome but the gray hat hackers is easier i think thanks again

58  Ethical Hacking Discussions and Related Certifications / Programming / Re: python newbie on: September 28, 2012, 12:00:01 PM
woohoo! Thank u all soo much what good resources. But i'd also recammend the cbt nuggets paython its great and easy to follow after that i want to read gray hat paython for hackers to learn some exploitation technics. I have'nt known how much python can be useful for hacking.

Now with three or four lines i could creat an app which crashes windows os immediately. then i've converted it to exe so i have a good useful portable app!

Thanx again
