Resources / Career Central / Re: Degree or Certs/Experience?

I don't know anyone that's attended any courses through them. I am just now trying to get enrolled in the local community college here to try and get an associates out of the way and then I'll more than likely head over to WGU. I have not heard anything about it being accredited by NSA (assuming you mean the excellence in IA thing).
Hey there, BillV. I'll be done with my associates in June. I plan on starting there in September. I'm going to do the emphasis in IT-Security. I'm attracted to this school for several reasons; It's regionally & nationally accredited, government recognized, and I receive credits for my certifications. They added Cisco to their curriculum, also. The main reason is, because, I screwed up and went to a private institution that's costing me 23K just for an associates degree. Although, I did learn a lot, and the teachers were very good, but, it makes it very hard to transfer to a public university for a B.S, especially, if you don't want to go for another four years. My school has an articulation plan with another private school with a degree in CS which would be another 30K, and it isn't even Nationally accredited, Screw that. Living in Kentucky sucks. lol. Yes, you assumed correctly. I believe from what I read that this accreditation is a big deal. But, I'm awaiting response from a student attending, so I will give you more details as soon as I can! http://www.nsa.gov/ia/academic_outreach/nat_cae/index.shtmlSorry for the ramble. Just had Mountain Dew. haha

Sorry to bring back an old thread. But, I just heard from someone that's attending there on Techexams.net, that they're about to be accredited by the NSA sometime. Not sure when, though.
I'm seriously thinking about attending there. Anybody have any comments regarding this school?

Hello all. I'm writing an article about securing wireless in a HIPA enviroment. I have a few topics that I'm going to talk about, let me know if I need to add anything.
-Types of attacks, and why you should secure it in a Hipa enviroment. -Roaming Security. -Types of Encryption. -Radius -TLS -Peap -IPSec -Ceritificates/Autentication.
Anything else I should add. I'm just brainstorming here. Thanks in advance.

Well done, and the sleep is deserved.
Was this the new Linux+ exam? If so, I'm glad to hear that they did a good job with it. As for remembering all the switches, such is life for an entry level cert. It's like learning all of your multiplication tables before you rely on a calculator.
Don
Thanks Don. I'm not really sure if it was the new one. I think the number was "XK-, 002", so I'm not sure. lol. Yea that's true, I'm actually glad I had to learn it, it will make my life easier in the future. Yea, I'm well rested now, I have been taking it easy, and chillin'. But today I received the Official Certified Ethical Hacker Review Guide, by Kimberly Graves. I'm halfway through it already. Then for Christmas my mom ordered the Exam Prep CEH book. So, I'm excited about that. About the CEH experience requirement, I talked to someone at EC-Council and they said they would waive the requirement because of the certifications I have already, most notably Security +, and because I'm working on a degree. So, I was very excited to hear that, and I'm looking forward to study for this one. Congrats!
Thanks Jason.

Congrats I was about to suggest that you'd want to update your sig... but you beat me to it before I had time to refresh! Glad to hear your hard work paid off. lol yea, when I hit the "post" button, I saw it, and then changed it. Thanks man, appreciate it, this is one tough exam, because certain options/switches change between different services, and it was very frustrating and difficullt to associate a switch with a service. Now it's time to Sleep +, because I'm working on three hours of sleep, I work third shift and my exam was at 9am. Thanks again! Rant: and it makes me mad, because that's what the "help" command is for, you know any Linux Admin would have a reference book right next to him.

Hello my fellow ethical hackers. Well, I'm proud to say I passed Comptia's Linux + exam, with an 820! I was very surprised to see that score. This was the hardest Comptia exam I have taken. The class I took was based off the book, "Novell's guide to Comptias Linux +", the book was horrible, every time you tried something it wouldn't work, and it was very frustrating. I took matters into my own hands, and studied the study guide from proprofs.com, read Technotes(techexams.net), made flash cards, and practiced. Although the book didn't meet my expectations, I can say my teacher helped me immensely, he was very knowledgeable. I have only used Backtrack for a year to this date, and only Ubuntu for the last two months; I have definitely seen a lot of growth, and I understand things much better after taking this class.

I do have pen. testing experience. As I build enterprise networks, its part of my job to make sure they are secure externally and internally. i'm more interested in the methods of blackhats on what they look when they 'try' to hack my networks. If I understand what they look for, I can better protect my them.
As for internal, I try to lock down accounts / hardware as much as possible, still doesnt stop users bringing in pda's etc..
I now have scripts polling switches for new mac addresses. Is it paranoia or over protection, I don’t know.. I like feeling safe.
Hello hb21l6, Welcome to EH.net! I wouldn't bother with the five day boot-camp, until you feel you're comfortable with the objectives for the CEH. Search around here for study material. Since you have experience in the field it shouldn't take long for you to catch on. Edit: Check out this thread http://www.ethicalhacker.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,54/topic,3087.0/
