Title: [Article]-Blackjacking Post by: don on January 17, 2007, 09:36:48 PM New book coming soon from our very own wireless guru, Dan Hoffman! Be sure to catch Don and Dan on the Computer Outlook Radio Program (http://www.computeroutlook.com/) on Thurs Jan 18 live from 5:00 - 6:00 PM PST discussing ethical hacking and Dan's book. If you miss us, catch it at your leisure in the Archives (http://www.computeroutlook.com/dailyshows.php). "Blackjacking: Security Threats to Blackberry, PDA's, and Cell Phones in the Enterprise (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0470127546?tag=thedigitalcon-20&camp=14573&creative=327641&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0470127546&adid=068DTATE9W4RQV4H3XDT&)" By Daniel Hoffman, published by Wiley. ISBN: 0470127546; Published: April 30, 2007; Pages: 336; Edition: 1st. Each chapter begins with a realistic hack taking place in a common and easy to understand scenario. An example would be, “Joe, Northeast sales manager for a Fortune 500 financial services company was at Starbucks checking his e-mail and accessing private customer mutual fund account information with his Blackberry…unbeknownst to Joe, he has just been hacked…” The chapter would then illustrate the exact steps taken to perform the hack and inform the reader of what steps and procedures need to be implemented to prevent the hack from taking place. This illustration would include screenshots of the programs used to perform the hacks and diagrams to help the reader visualize what is taking place with the depictions and explanations being very visual in nature. Each mobile device (Blackberry, PDA and Cell Phone) will be represented in the book and specific, numerous hacks and protective measures will be illustrated for each device. All examples apply across the board to all mobile device hardware and software. I will definitely be picking this up, I like the topic and the waty in which you approach it with the scenarios. This is an emerging technology which most (myself included) know very little about. Hopefully after I read this, I won't be so paranoid about turning my bluetooth on ;) Title: Re: [Article]-Blackjacking Post by: don on February 02, 2007, 12:09:47 AM Submitted to digg:

We'll post a review in the next week or so with a sample chapter. Until then, if anyone gets a chance to read it on their own, please give Dan a hand by offering up your reviews on Amazon. Use the link above in the first post of this thread. Thanks and good luck Dan. We're all proud.
