Title: Any Encryption related courses?
Post by: blueaxis on February 28, 2012, 12:53:03 PM
Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if there is any course focused on encryption/decryption techniques and methods. Something like practically applying BitLocker, EFS, SSL, for Windows. I am sure there would be similar services available for Linux/Unix platform as well. I googled it but couldn't find much. Please share if you have additional information.

Thanks so much!

The SANS Securing Unix and Windows courses would likely cover these topics:

You might also find these books to be useful:

Your recommendations look solid - no doubt. I was envisioning something like Encryption/Decryption as a course that covers all widely implemented platforms into one umbrella. You know there is cost factor too :)

Not that I'm aware of. Encryption implementation is usually product/OS-specific (even though most of the algorithms used are standard), so that topic is included as a subset of more general courses. Security+ and/or SSCP might cover the topics you're interested in as well.

MIT OpenCourseware also has some cryptography courses, but that's more math/CSci, and I don't think that's what you're looking for: http://ocw.mit.edu/courses/#electrical-engineering-and-computer-science

You can learn a lot of this simply by doing research online. For example, MS Technet is going to cover all those items for Microsoft/Windows platforms.
