Title: SANS GPEN Requirements
Post by: zelda on July 28, 2011, 04:26:02 AM
Hi guys!

Are there any requirements to take the GPEN exam? I haven't found any but want to be sure.

Thanks,
z.

You have to pay your fee, that is all.

Just like hell_razor said, you only need to pay the fee (something around 400 USD, can't remember the exact amount) and you'll receive 2 practice tests and the the chance to sit for the real one (you are given 4 months the take it).

It's $899 to challenge if you are not an alumni of the course.

How many of you have just taken the test and not the actual course? Once I get to that point in my career, I cant see myself paying 4-5 K per class. I know people say SANS is geared more towards Companies..but they have to think a lot of people would want to take the classes as well..but not for that price. I'm not taking anything away from them, they could be worth the money..but my middle class ass will stick to books haha

@YuckTheFankees: I wrote the exam without taking the class.

I took the Offensive-Security course "PWB", learned about laws and legal stuff, studied windows based tools and I wrote the exam without problems.

I **REALLY** like the practice exam that comes with any exams from SANS. It will help you spot things you have missed in your study.

Good luck !

Agree with H1t M0nk3y.

Took GPEN after PWB, also.  Worst part was the laws (for other countries, especially,) but I'd been warned, and went in with good, indexed notes for those.  Remember, it's an 'open-book' test.

Study hard, and it's not too bad, without having taken their class.

Do you just search the internet for the laws and regulations? or did you use a book?

Informed internet research, based on information I found when digging...
