Title: Pass Linux+ certification to get two more certificates
Post by: UNIX on November 09, 2010, 11:46:14 AM
Maybe someone is considering to achieve a linux related certification, so the following might be interesting.

As LPIC and CompTIA are cooperating, it's possible to receive the LPIC-1 certification as well, once you have passed Linux+ powered by LPI (LX0-101 and LX0-102). If I'm informed correctly, you'd be eligible to get Novell's Certified Linux Administrator certificate as well.

Yes, it is true. And also is the same with CCNA:Security, you obtained one from the EEUU goverment.

I know I just looked into this the other day, but I know some of the Linux+ exams (which they had vouchers for at getcertify4less), just expired on the 31st of October.. I think they were replaced with the ones mentioned, need to look it up..

I'm not positive about just getting the Novell Certified Linux Administrator credential just by passing the CompTia ones, but if so, that's really cool!

I remember back in the day when I was getting some CompTia certs, I got my i-Net+ (irrelevant now..) and that automatically qualified me as a CIW Associate, so I got two certs, which I wonder if they still exist.. hmm.. lol

I couldn't find a statement regarding the Novel CLA on the English version of CompTIA's website, but it's written on the German (http://www.comptia.org/global/de-DE/certifications/linux-plus.aspx) version.

However, when you look around, you will find proof of this on some other websites as well, such as on Novell's (http://www.novell.com/training/certinfo/cla/) and LPIC's (http://www.lpi.org/eng/certification/lpi_and_novell_partnership) websites directly.

I have to say, I love EH and everyone who helps make this site what it is!  I was just wondering, what/if any Linux certs would look best on a resume for my current/potential employer.  Low and behold, I find this post that lets me know I can get 2 for the price of 1!  Since, I'm paying for my furthering education, training, and "DIY Career in EH", anywhere I can cut costs is a god send.

Actually, you get 3 certs for the price of one:

Comptia Linux+
LPI level 1
Novell Certified Linux Administrator

So if two for one is good, three for one is better!

You are absolutely correct.  And, yes, 3 for 1 is way better!  I was super tired when I read that and got really excited excited!

Here is a link for the info on Comptia's site: http://www.comptia.org/certifications/listed/linux.aspx (http://www.comptia.org/certifications/listed/linux.aspx)

And here is the info on Novell: http://www.novell.com/training/certinfo/cla/ (http://www.novell.com/training/certinfo/cla/)

From what I understand, you take Linux+ (which is the same as LPIC-1), and you get both certs.  Then you apply for NCLA, at no additional cost.
