Hi,
I will be starting Offsec course after I give my ASA exam of CCSP . How should I start preparing for it . I will be using my Laptop to learn and practice everything . It is a IBM T43 1.7Ghz Pentium M with 1 GB ram and 40GB hard disk. I have installed Kubuntu on it right now . I will be considering http://linuxcommand.org/ to learn linux commands as I am not that good when it comes to Linux . I will be upgrading my 128K internet connection to a 512K one . Which Operating system should I install on my laptop for the course or should I stick to Kubuntu ? . I really dont know how these off-sec guys give you exam materials . I mean do you VPN into their servers to access the BackTrack OS or should I install it here on my PC or what ?

My guess would definitely be that your on Back Track and you VPN into the lab to recieve a lab IP Address. I'd consider installing Back Track 3. You might want to refer below:

COm_BOY,

unless it's changed recently you run BackTrack on your personal machine and VPN to the lab network.

There isn't really any need to install BackTrack to the HD if you don't want to, providing you have some way of maintaining persistent storage. Personally I run BackTrack from a USB flash drive and use the remaining storage for notes and extra files.

They do say that you don't need Backtrack, but the course is run by the BT guys, the vids are all BT, and BT has all the tools you need in one handy place. When you get on a roll you'll appreciate not having to stop to download and compile something you've not got installed.

You'll be using XP for parts, but OffSec provide you with a box to RDP to for those bits.

I've been running a HDD install of BT3 on a VM and it's gone smoothly.
