Title: Metasploit Hacked!
Post by: oneeyedcarmen on June 03, 2008, 08:50:09 AM
HD Moore's Metasploit website was hacked Monday morning via ARP Spoofing. (http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/06/hacker-hijacks.html)

Of course HD corrected the issue quickly.  I'm sure this is far from the first attempt.  Luckily for the attacker, HD's one of the good guys...because, you know, it would be a shame to see what would happen to him if someone like HD wanted revenge.   ;)

HD is at the SANS Pen Testing Summit and, as the report you link to reports, he commented that this was due to an ISP issue and not with his server(s). Either way, it does go to show that bad things can happen that are not always in your control that affect your business or project. HD was able to hard code the proper routes, but it still is an indication of how many attack vectors are out there if someone has an agenda to bring you down.

The person who hacked his site has balls. Even if HD Moore is a good guy, a user successfully hacking a respected and well known site has to get him angry, bet the attacker has it coming to him. ;)
