Title: Living computers
Post by: oneeyedcarmen on June 02, 2008, 03:48:14 PM
Not necessarilly security related (at least not yet).

We're all familiar with computer viruses, but what about computer bacteria (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/24880713/)?

Quote from: MSNBC
Scientists have genetically tweaked E. coli bacteria to create simple computers capable of solving a classic math puzzle, commonly called the “Burnt Pancake Problem.”

The resulting advance in synthetic biology, according to researchers, hints at the ability of tiny “living computers” to aid in data storage, evolutionary comparisons and even tissue engineering.

This is pretty crazy stuff that maybe our grandchildren who follow in our security footsteps will have to deal with.  Or this'll just turn into I am Legend with the tetracycline resistant E. coli taking over the world.

Just keep the penicillin out of the server room  ;)
