Title: See, this is what I mean by job security
Post by: pseud0 on March 03, 2008, 05:42:55 PM
The "death of ethical hacking" thread crossed my mind when I read these.  This is the type of thing that shows that hacking, ethical or otherwise, is probably not going anywhere soon.

Yes, as long as the human factor is involved, the scope for ethical hacking and security is always there.

Thanks for links pseud0,

managed to miss those stories event though I frequently visit the sources, must have been a busy day at work.

As Manu said, as long as humans are involved there will be weaknesses, and where there are weaknesses they'll be people trying to take advantage, that should be where we come in....

You know that this stuff is happening, but it never ceases to amaze.  Very good articles.

That's exactly how I feel when I read articles like those.

It really is amazing, the things that people come up with. It's just unfortunate that it has to be for such a malicious cause.

Even though the ssytems themselves may be more secure, the weakest link will still be the human element. Why else is social engineering so effective?

Without light there can be no darkness, lol.   Whatever!  ;)  There will always be people trying to access data they shouldnt be able to.  Well humanist will not agree, but I believe in our life time there will not be much of change in human nature.   In our life time there will be very intelligent people that desire to access data they should not.  Some are very brilliant.

The most amusing article to me was the one about Mildenhall.  It isn't just fact that they had security issues, it was the idea that when you try to show someone that they have security issues they a) deny it, b) get mad at you, c) panic, or d) all of the above at random points in time.  More often than not security comes down to people being willfully stupid.
