Title: OSWP and operations and implementations
Post by: ruggerrick on February 22, 2008, 02:30:47 AM
How useful is the OSWP and the accompanying courses and certifications from an operational and implementation point of view. Theres plenty of CEH crams guides, etc. seems everyone chases the "hacker" money and cert/title.

Who sticks around to help implement securely from the start. Vendor applications don't do it, focusing more on the "bells and whistles" of the vendors offering. Is the OSWP gonna help someone be THAT guy that starts on the right track?

Or possibly the everyday operations and monitoring guy, any input there?

I haven't taken the OSWP course but I know it's based off Aircrack-ng. Just holding the OSWP Certification won't neccessarily guarantee you a spot as someone who gets to do administration right off the bat if that's what you mean. In taking the course, it is stated as their primary objective that "The student will gain insight into the wireless offensive security field, which will expand awareness for the need of real world security solutions." This course focuses on wireless security. Personally if you'd want to be starting out on the right track, I'd start with something like a Network+ or Security+ certification, then eventually work my way up to obtaining the OSWP cert. Not only will you have more knowledge after getting these certs but you'd do alot better on the course.

your CWNA/P would be a better option to be a "wireless guy"

OWSP along with CWNA and CWSP with make a good combination.

I think OSWP will help you be "the wireless guy" in that it will give you a better insight to why you should configure a router securely, and why you shouldn't ever use WEP to secure a network, etc.  It will make you realize that basic attacks are very easy to carry off and make you conscious of the risks associated with a wireless device.

OSCP and OSWP are my dreams to finish it and dont know when its gona be ture ,i know bit of wireless stuff and security .. as i have my website running http://www.thewifihack.com,
none of them are actually secure nor WEP or WPA cause even WPA has already cracked , the best way is keep on updated yourself upto the security , not most of them know how to crack WPA .. so its better to keep on changing WPA pass for every month ... OSWP gives indepth and more options information of both attack and securing the attacks.... i would give full points for OSWP...
