Title: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: don on April 19, 2007, 12:14:05 AM As promised, here is a review and some exclusive sample chapters of the novel, Daemon.
Permanent Link: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel (http://www.ethicalhacker.net/content/view/125/1/) Quote EH-Net Exclusive First 4 Chapters of Daemon Enough technology to satisfy the hacker community, plenty of toys for the electronics buff but not too much of either to deter those merely interested in a fun read. Add in plenty of action to move the story along, great characters in which to sink your teeth and eye-opening views into the seedy cyber-underworld, and Daemon is poised to please the masses. Please use this thread to discuss any of the topics from the book or thoughts on the novel itself. Don Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: Chuck on April 21, 2007, 12:40:29 AM Will for sure have to make time to read the rest of this. I read all 4 chapters at work without realizing it. I just looked this book up on Yahoo and Ethical Hacker.net was 4 and 5 on the hit list. I typed in Daemon A novel and the 4th hit took me to the 4 chapters on here and 5 brought me straight back to this forum.
Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: don on April 21, 2007, 11:36:12 PM Forgot to mention the official site for the novel in the review. Really good use of flash, and a great link back to EH-Net using the voice of the daemon to introduce us. Too cool. 8)
http://www.thedaemon.com Thanks Leinad and sorry for the oversight, Don Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: Chuck on April 22, 2007, 02:21:21 AM Awesome site. There are an additional 3 chapters on the site as well as some links. Talking about some of the devices and tech used in the book. Such as MRI scans being used as a lie detector. I have not seen it used to tell what someone says but it is the BEST lie detector to date. Also the sonic sound is a very useful riot control weapon being researched. Excellent site to make you think about some things.

"The Cuckoo's Egg: Tracking a Spy Through the Maze of Computer Espionage" I heard that this book is a classic and that any security professional should have a chance to read this book. Very cool guy and I enjoyed hanging out in Vegas with him, Brian Wilson and a forth member of the party who shall remain nameless. :-X Don Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: blackazarro on August 07, 2007, 11:19:00 AM Hey Don, Since you met him and all, I have a question for you concerning his name (Leinad Zeraus). Is that his real name or is it Daniel Suarez? I was researching about the author and found a review about the book where someone commented that if you rearrange his name from right to left you end up... well, with the name mentioned above. Hmmm... interesting. BTW, I'm currently reading the novel and it's great and highly recommended. Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: slimjim100 on August 07, 2007, 08:58:36 PM I met him and know of him by the name Leinad Zeraus... Kinda of cool how the name looks reversed.
Brian Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: Chuck on August 09, 2007, 04:59:36 PM I finished the book a month ago but have just now been able to get around to log on to the site. As some of you know I am training for deployment. The book was rather good up until the end. I hate when they cop out like that. I did like the rest of the book and have to admit that I would by a sequel if it were to come out. One of the first books that I can honestly say I was not sure of what was coming next. Did not expect a few things that happened. Not just another generic book.
Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: LZeraus on August 12, 2007, 12:10:00 AM Don,
There will definitely be a sequel to Daemon -- due sometime in the first half of 2008. This story was always intended as two books, with the sequel an integral part of the whole. The title of the second book still has to clear legal, but I'll slap an RSS feed onto the Daemon web site soon to broadcast release information as it becomes available. www.thedaemon.com BTW - For those who read Daemon -- have you tried 'Google 411'? (1-800-466-4411) All I can say is: 'The Voice' lives! L.Z. Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: don on August 12, 2007, 12:14:19 AM In a word...
w00t!! Don PS - Welcome to our community. Feel free to use us for additional research. I'm sure no one will have a problem with that, especially since we all work so hard to keep the "ethical" side prevalent. Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: jimbob on August 14, 2007, 11:16:38 AM Hi and welcome! The thread on this site generated enough interest for me to order a copy of the book from Amazon, so I guess you'd say you're among friends here :)
I look forward to reading it so I can pitch in some useful comment! Jimbob Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: RoleReversal on March 13, 2008, 02:19:59 PM Just finished reading this book after reading the sample chapters on EH-net.
Really liked the book although I thought the ending was a bit tame, but then I jump on the forum to post my thoughts to discover the auther has a sequel in the pipeline for this year, made me all happy inside. Fully recommend it to anyone that hasn't already read it. Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: slimjim100 on March 13, 2008, 02:40:59 PM This was one of the best books I read and I also got to meet the author @ defcon and get a bite to eat with him. As for the next book his site has this listed:
Look for the Sequel to Daemon in 2008 If you enjoyed Daemon, be sure to look for FreedomTM, coming in late 2008 from Verdugo Press. So the next book is to be titled "Freedom" and it says "late 2008". I can not wait to read it! Brian Title: Re: [Article]-Daemon - A Novel Post by: don on March 13, 2008, 03:59:34 PM Just in case, here's a reminder:
