Title: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: Kevan on March 19, 2007, 05:12:48 PM I noticed the above title in a post while looking through this forum. I looked it up and have to admit, the only one that doesn't apply to me is the part about seeing the movie 'hackers'. Is it that good? If it is, where can I get it/see it? (I live with my parents who after many conversations do not approve of hackers and therefore do not know I am "in training"...as I will always be. So I cannot simply go rent a movie and watch it without them knowing and freaking out.)
Title: Re: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: don on March 19, 2007, 05:27:53 PM IMHO... you're not missing much. It's very campy with an overblown, pop culture way of viewing those cool teenage computer geeks.
War Games is much more realistic. I also recommend some of the documentaries in the Mass Media Board (http://www.ethicalhacker.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,54/board,17.0/). Title: Re: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: mn_kthompson on March 21, 2007, 08:56:59 AM I must disagree with Don. If it weren't for Hackers I never would have heard of The Prodigy and my life wouldn't include their sweet soothing music.
You also get to see Angelina Jolie back before she adopted a small army of children to do her bidding. Joking aside, I would say that the only reason you would ever need to see that movie is so that you can understand any pop culture references that are made to the movie. You're not going to learn anything from it. Title: Re: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: oleDB on March 21, 2007, 09:35:23 AM I sense a new poll opportunity ... best "hacker" movie all time as rated by the members of EH.net

You can't tell me that the companies that sell DVDs and CDs are doing something ethical by making 90% profit...
<edit>Hackers was the only movie I could find on youtube. (11 9min sections). It wasn't bad, however I know for a fact a computer isn't that graphical in the filesystem. Actually, I did learn a little from it. Would you say they are ethical or non-ethical hackers?</edit> Title: Re: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: ChrisG on March 21, 2007, 08:23:15 PM yeah well if only 10% of the people actually pay for it that would have them breaking even then wouldnt it.

Actually, I did learn a little from it. There are actually a few graphical filesystem viewing tools out there, fsv is actually somewhat similar to some of the movie special effects http://fsv.sourceforge.net/ (http://fsv.sourceforge.net/) Title: Re: tapeworm’s 1337 h4×0r h4ndb00k Post by: iSmith on July 04, 2008, 11:41:51 AM ??? you are so young and already thinking of the unethical? my my, i wonder if EH-net in already losing the "E" part and corrupting young minds.
