Title: Good 1st Level Certification
Post by: badsign on February 12, 2007, 02:17:28 PM
This topic has probably been through the ringer around here but humor me if you have a moment.

I've got A+ level comp skills and some programming experience. I'm not new to IT. I've also been around the hacker scene off and on but not at a very deep level.

That being said, what are some of your opinions on a good place to start getting your feet wet with security certs?

Thanks for your time.

CompTIA's Security+ (http://www.certifiedsecuritypro.com/content/view/25/67/) without a doubt. If you pass that wth flying colors, then you will know that you are ready to move on to either more technical certs or more managerial certs.

Either way, as far as entry-level security certs, this is my pick. A close second may be SANS GIAC (http://www.certifiedsecuritypro.com/content/category/5/90/119/) Security Essentials.

Hope this helps,
Don

On topic: agreed.

Off topic: ChrisG, I'm curious as to how you achieved both CEH and CNDA? Did you take the exam twice?
