Title: Got an old 486? Make it a firewall!
Post by: don on February 03, 2007, 12:45:14 PM
With hardware requirements as low as a 486 with 32MB of Ram and a 512MB HDD, anyone can start playing with their very own firewall using SmoothWall Express.

Here are some resources:

- Get SmoothWall Express (http://smoothwall.org/get/)
- Review: Information Week Magazine (http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?articleID=197001131)
- Tutorial: The 10 Minute Linux Firewall (http://www.daniweb.com/tutorials/tutorial14094.html)

Have fun,
Don

Another similar option is IPCop, which was actually forked from Smoothwall a few years back. I've used it for several years and am generally happy with it.
